Description:

My three kids all love sports so this keeps me very busy in the fall. I have two boys that play football and a little girl who plays volleyball. My little girl loves volleyball so much that on nights she is not playing she watches (and takes pictures) of the local high school girls playing. When it comes to scrapbooking sports I like to keep my layouts simple- therefore keeping the attention of the photos front and center. And since it is a busy time of the year I can get more layouts scrapbooked by keeping them simple in design.

In the layout called “Tough Stuff” I wanted to document how my son looked after playing football on a cold rainy day. When you are in Jr. high this is what you live for- hitting hard and getting muddy! I found this template by Katie Pertiet and felt it was perfect for a football layout. By using her template I was able to quickly put together a wonderful layout in a matter of 30 minutes. I used the Bamboo Pen and Tablet as a tool to help change the colors of the wordart “Tough Stuff” included in the template (original colors were green and black).

I first clicked on the layer of the wordart (to make it the active selection). Then clicked the marquee tool in the tool bar (the lasso tool could also be used). Using the bamboo pen I dragged around the part of the wordart I wanted to change (the word tough in green). I then clicked on Edit > Cut then Edit > Paste. This put part of the wordart on it’s own layer. Now working on this new layer I held the Control key down and clicked on the thumbnail image of the new layer in the layers palette. This put a specific detailed selection around the area of the wordart. I made a new layer and then using the color picker tool matched the shade of red from my son’s jersey. I selected a brush from the tool bar and using the Bamboo Pen and Tablet brushed over this selection. This recolored the wordart to a red (as shown in the layout pictured). I then deleted the layer with the original green color. I repeated these steps for the other part of the wordart (the word stuff).

Please watch the video tutorial for the Volleyball layout to learn how to make a brush from an element in a digital kit. I hope you enjoy my Bamboo Fun video tutorials.

About Angie:

Pharmacist by day. Digital scrapbooker by night. Angie often finds her creative muse in the late evening hours on her family’s small ranch in Nebraska. She always enjoyed traditional scrapbooking in high school. (Her kids love to pull them out and laugh at her Farrah Fawcett hair.)

Angie began digital scrapbooking when her rural location made traditional paper supplies hard to come by. Now with digital scrapbooking, she enjoys the best of both worlds. A contributing editor for Digital Scrapbooking Magazine, she writes a column called “Make it Now” which provides a digital/hybrid project readers can complete in one evening. Her online store, GoodLifePhoto.com, also provides more than 600 digital scrapbooking templates with drag-and-drop layouts that are easy-and-fun.
